Quntis HT8885 3-Way Lamp Review – A Little Flair for Monitors And Workspace

Quntis HT8885 3-Way Lamp Review – A Little Flair for Monitors And Workspace

Quntis HT8885 is a $101 USD desk lamp advertised for monitors that we will be reviewing today and see how something so unassuming can design a better working space. This is an item I use personally and which people have asked me about since they saw in my youtube videos and some photos, so I decided to make a full review about it. Code of the product will most likely not be visible on Amazon or most websites, and the name will be something really long, like “Quntis 32.5″ Architect Desk Lamps for Office Home Dorm – Eye Care 3 Light Bar 1100LM Bright, Ambient Backlight, Radar Sensor, Remote Control, 2H Timer, Workbench Drafting Reading Video Conference Task”

Introduction

I do not follow lamps and LED lights beyond the major players like Smallrig, Tolifo, and Godox, but I know that a name like Quntis is not unassuming and the company is pushing the boundaries a bit on what a name for a company should be. At any rate, this is a company that makes mainly LED lights for monitors, which for me is a “?” or questionable idea, as usually you’d want as little reflections as possible from your monitor, while having an LED light above it will lower the contrast and perceived quality of the image for sure.

Build Quality And Design

The whole idea behind using a lamp like the HT8885 is to reduce eye tiredness and for a better comfort while gaming. I actually saw so many of those in youtube videos of people who have a really beautiful looking setup, and the company promises that with this flicker-free light, and anti blue light, it will improve your eyes and that it is suitable for reading.

HT8885 has multiple buttons including a Manual Dimmer Button, Color Temp adjustment button, power button and Auto Dimmer button, along with an ambient light sensor. The unit I have looks a bit different from the renders on the website, so likely there is a little physical design difference, but it works all the same. You should keep in mind that only the light of the active lamp changes, while the light of the vertical strip that usually would point at the back is consistent and always at max brightness.

You can choose from around 4 color levels and 4 light strength levels, if you use manual settings, but the auto is rather intelligent and does a great job. There is dual control available, one on the lamp itself and one on a battery powered remote control thingy. This model can be adjusted and folds any way you may need, and it even has a motion sensor, where it turns off if it does not detect motion for 5 minutes.

Technically, the Quntis HT8885 has 1100 lumens of soft, flicker-free light with 182 high-quality LEDs. As the company quotes, the backlight theoretically reduces the contrast between the screen and the surroundings, easing visual fatigue. Temperature of the light produced by the lamp can be adjusted between 3000K and 6500K, and you can have stepless dimming for precise control.

Subjective Usage – Quality

Stability – The adjusting mechanism is very stable despite the height of the lamp, and the top part is very light, offering a good enough experience that it does not wobble or move while I type, game or anything, even if it is connected to my desk. Once you adjust it, it will stay in place. This being said, there is no way to adjust it perfectly straight beyond eyeballing it.

Light Color – There are multiple light colors available for the HT8885, with options to either select one of the 4 settings. As all of them are similarly bright, it is more of a choice of what color you prefer. As my room has orange wooden walls, I always pick the coldest color available, which on the QT8885 is a bit blue, so I stick with the 2nd one from the coldest.

Long-Term Usage – I actually left it turned on for a couple of weeks, to see if it heats up, dies, or anything happens to it, but there have been zero changes to the strength of the light, everything looks as new, and at most I noticed dust setting on the lamp. It consumes very little power, so I do not worry about turning it off when I am not around, but I don’t like the motion sensor as I have it placed far from my monitor and that motion sensor will never see me.

Subjective Impressions – This is a really high quality LED LAMP, with actually zero flicker and a high CRI. This means that it can be used for taking photos, even macro or photos of people. Sadly, the light is far too weak to be useful for macros, and it is mostly a top quality ambient light. I personally fail to see its usefulness if it is projecting light on your desk, because it will considerably lower the contrast for most monitors, lowering perceived resolution, and making the whole setup washed out.

On the other hand, I quite disagree with the company’s position regarding the light on the back of the display. I mean, when I do set it behind the display, for my eyes it actually increases the perceived contrast and makes the image much more crisp and easier to look at. This is because when only the monitor / laptop / display is projecting an image, I get such bad eye strain that I often close my eyes, or my eyes get dry and the image is just a bit blurry. With the light behind the monitor, I get visual comfort and my room also looks much better. The fact that you can create certain shapes with the light is also top notch.

Overall, I find the 8885 a lamp that I love to have as a reviewer and audiophile, it creates a nice tone and mood for my room and feels welcoming and welcome to my setup. I don’t see it as a needless add-on, but to be fair, I right now have 4 lights, one behind the monitor, one on the left side, two on the right instead of an overhead light. Out of those, 8885 has a higher CRI and light quality than all of my lights, but it is weaker than a studio light from Tolifo, so it would not be a good fill light for filming. Fot photos, it has plenty of light and looks top. Final conclusion is that I love the 8885 and find it excellent, would recommend it for anyone using a larger monitor, but consider placing it behind the monitor or have it pointing at the ceiling, so that the light does not spill on the monitor but on the back of the monitor, or on the wall behind the monitor to create a highlight and a cool effect for you setup.

Value and Conclusion

Quntis HT8885 costs around 65 USD, which is far less than what a good ring light with a battery would cost, and it is also cheaper than most LED bands and most light solutions. This being said, it has a high quality LED light inside, has zero flicker and does actually have a nice effect if used as your desk requires.

For the money asked and design, 8885 is a super nice LED Lamp for your desk, can easily attach to that desk and it makes using your computer more fun, set the mood more easily and gives your room a better look. It is cheap, effective, can be run for 12 hours each day, does not get hot, and does not consume much power, making it an ideal purchase regardless whether you plan on using it as it was intended, or pointing the light at the ceiling for adding more light to your room.

PROs

  • High quality food and attachment mechanism
  • Fairly sturdy and not wobbly, despite the very simple mechanism
  • Remote included that works really well
  • Presence monitor so it can turn on automatically when you are in the room
  • Higher than 95 CRI, Zero Flicker, beautiful effect
  • Very good price performance ratio
  • It can be entirely placed at the back of the monitor or behind objects and will still have exactly the same effect of creating a better ambient for your eyes and reducing eye strain

Cons

  • It is great outside of the original idea, and using it as intended will actually reduce contrast, but still it is a top product for me
  • Cannot adjust the color of the light for the vertical theoretically back light
  • Since it is almost always on your desk, remote is a top bonus but not really that useful
