EpoMaker TH108 Pro Keyboard Review – Beautiful And Practical

EpoMaker TH108 Pro Keyboard Review – Beautiful And Practical

EpoMaker TH108Pro is a $84 USD full-sized 100% wireless keyboard with a TFT Smart Display, volume wheel and a 10.000 mAh Battery, designed to overtake your desk, and to sound impressive. We actually have reviewed products from Epokmaker before, although they were usually branded under different brands like KiiBoom. Today we explore how TH108 Pro works, how it sounds and whether it is a good choice for your next keb.

Introduction

Epomaker is an engine that powers the keyboard industry, they make a huge part of what other companies brand and sell. Epomaker has their own brand now, their own switches, keycaps, and barebone designs. You can always rely on Epomaker keyboards to be reliable, affordable, and I personally like how they look and how they work in general. Although I am used to KeyChron and their over-the-top construction, TH108 Pro is much lighter and more portable, so I will most definitely explore how the TH108 Pro compares to my daily driver KeyChron keyboard despite the huge price difference. I believe that Epomaker TH108 Pro is currently in pre-production, but I can confirm that I have a working piece that behaves really well, so this is a final product that you will receive if you pre-order now.

Build Quality And Design

I always love reviewing keyboards, as they are nice for a little pause from when I am reviewing more complex products, as well as something I use on a daily basis. I even plan on possibly reviewing a laptop I bought for work since I use it to type many reviews, when I am on-the-go. Speaking of which, TH108 Pro is a uniquely versatile 100% layout keyboard, but with the advantage of having an US Layout 104 keys. Despite this full size, which is by far my favorite and the only one I really recommend, TH108 Pro has a super low weight of just 1.12 kG, and a height of 4.2cm, being downright perfect for mild portability too.

In fact, this is one of the very few modern keyboards that come with adjustment feet that are so much needed to get a proper angle on your keyboard and to be able to really use it. Let me remind you that I have to mod my Keychron Q6 Max by gluing 4 large rubber erasers on its bottom to really angle it the way i need for work. TH108 Pro features the perfect layout and design for both work and gaming, having double-shot PBT keycaps with wear-resistant colors and thick ABS body.

Epomaker made sure that TH108Pro is resistant to usage and installed a huge 10.000 mAh battery inside which offers up to 200 hours of continuous usage if you keep the screen and RGB lights off, or up to 42 hours with the RGB light on and the screen turned on. There are two switch options for the TH108Pro, which are either the Epomaker Sea Salt Silent Switch or EpoMaker Creamy Jade switch, both linear, mechanical switches, but sea salt is silent while creamy jade is standard. Both are pre-lubed, have around 2mm of pretravel and 4mm of full travel, with 45gf of force and 50 bottomout force. This all sounds and looks very standard.

Technically, TH108Pro has 5 layers of acoustic padding, including Poron, IXPE, Sound-Enhancement PET, EPDM Switch socket foam and bottom silicone for the sound it produces. Adding this to the gasket mounting for a soft and flexible feel, it also has full RGB lighting and is basically the ideal keyboard if you want an all-plastic keb. I personally like the white color which I fully recommend, I find it perfect for all setups, although it is neither stealthy and it is more prone to getting dirty.

Subjective Usage And Quality

Stability – Starting with the keyboard stability, TH108 Pro is the most stable keyboard I ever had in my entire life. It is so much better than everything I had before, including than KeyChron Q6 Max. I am saying this from a spce where I found TH108 Pro to be so light, yet it almost sticks to my desk. Even if it is placed with half of it on a mousepad, half on the desk, it is still sticking to it, with no chance of moving it away. Absolute insanity how stable the guys made it. This stays true even if you use the feet to angle it.

Ergonomics – Speaking of angles, Epomaker adding those feet to angle the TH108Pro is another pure insanity part, I find the angle at max to be absolutely perfect. It is so good that I physically do not want to adjust it, just the right angle for the keycaps and switches to work in perfect ergonomy with my hands.

KeyCaps – KeyCaps are very square and a bit angular, with sharp edges, but they do not hurt my fingers thanks to a soft touch feeling for the whole keycap. Symbols do not shine through, and most of the light flows around the keycap. This profile is most likely a cherry like profile. I checked on the website and it is indeed a cherry profile. I tend to use MOA and OA base profiles as I moves away from cherry profiles because they were hirtnig my fingers, but the particular type of plastic that TH108 has in the keycaps feels like pure heaven.

Switches – Switch quality is absolutely top, but I personally don’t like the switches and I feel this is the last time I am trying a silent switch. I want to make this clear, I personally ordered the Sea Salt Silent Switch, and I thought it would be novel. It is the best silent switch I had so far, I can type to my max speed for sure, but they bottom out a bit soft and well, silent, which feels a bit unnatural for me. I have to press a bit more on each key to feel the bottom out, and this is not something I like very much.

On the other hand, the sound those switches produce is creamy, it is silent, dampened, and I can measure around 49 dB in a room with a base of around 30 dB. So it will be rather quiet in actual typing, depending on how hard you press. To draw a comparison, a KeyChron Q6 Max and most keyboards with a normal switch will give you around 60 dB for the same room, with the phone mounted at the same distance from the keyboard.

Gaming – Flex is almost non existent, and that mini display is an interesting, although slightly useless feature. It is a mini clock that tells you how much battery you have, and that is about it. Configuring the keyboard is very simple and it works well, the 100% size is top, best choice for gaming, writing, and basically everything else. The sound of this keyboard is actually better than about everything I heard from the factory, it has no clicks, no variation between sound, the space bar is as quiet as the other keys and it sounds like rain beating in your window, or on a roof, a rather romantic and pleasing sound.

General – In general I have literally zero complaints. Speed is perfect for fast shooters, even if using the wireless dongle, and I actually prefer using it wireless. Arrow keys are spaced naturally, react nicely for certain arcade games, and I did write this entire review using just this keyboard, with fewer mistakes than when using Keychron Q6 Max.

If you don’t need the silent version, you’re likely to prefer the more standard Creamy Jade Linear Switch and I wouldn’t recommend silents unless you know you need those. Key stability on the silent Sea Salt is better than on all the switches I’ve been using, but feeling the slightly dampy part is a certain unique experience for keyboards. To give you a reference, I actually own a couple of high-end silent switches including TTC Frozen Silent V2 and this Sea Salt has a more natural feel to it, although it is 2-3 dB louder than the Frozen V2. This being said, I enjoy typing on the Sea Salt, while TTC frozen v2 is a switch I have not used in ages.

Value and Conclusion

It feels like a huge highlight of this review is that the TH 108 Pro costs just 84 USD at the moment of this review, and this makes it instantly one of the best choices you can purchase, period. It is rigid in build, but has gasket mounting, sounds better than 99% of keyboards you can build yourself and even has a mini display if you will ever need it.

While there is absolutely nothing perfect in this world, I feel like TH108Pro will be the top choice for a ton of people. While most don’t need to transport their keyboard, I do, and I found that carrying a full-sized metallic keychron Q6 Max is almost impossible, due to weight and how it can scratch my laptop and other objects like headphones and IEMS, but TH108 PRO has none of those issues, it is easily portable and feels and looks top. In fact, currently, for a portable, easygoing keyboard it is currently my favorite, especially thanks to the long battery life, and reliable wireless usage.

PROs

  • Sound feel and quality is absolutely insane, far better than what I could get done with tons of mods on other keyboards
  • Typing feel is top notch, you cannot really tell that it is a full ABS body and feels as sturdy as most fully metallic keyboards
  • Does not scratch other objects if it is being transported in a backpack
  • I love the 100% format, it is the only one that makes sense to me
  • Beautiful and refined, it really does not feel like a sub 100 USD keyboard
  • Overall a top choice considering everything
  • Useful volume wheel on the right side
  • Feet at the back to adjust height
  • Perfect for work, gaming and writing
  • Low latency in both wired and wireless modes

Cons

  • Default switch options limited to one linear and one silent switch
  • Default cable is quite basic
  • SeaSalt switch is of a slightly better stability and quality than the Creamy Jade
