ZiiGaat Luna IEMs Review – Selenar Sudden Ash Impact

ZiiGaat Luna IEMs Review – Selenar Sudden Ash Impact

ZiiGaat Luna is a $379 USD high-end pair of IEMS with six balanced armature drivers inside each earpiece, tuned with a studio sound in mind, and with a beautiful shell as well. Today we review the ZiiGaat Luna and compare them with other high-end IEMS including Dunu Vulkan 2 (359 USD), Punch Audio Martilo (329 USD) and Xenns Mangird Top Pro (449 USD)

Build Quality – Aesthetics

ZiiGaat Luna has a 6 driver configuration at the core, with dual Sonion 39AY008 Subwoofers, Dual Knowles 32873 Midrange drivers, and with Dual Knowles 33518 Tweeter Balanced Armature Drivers. The idea behind Luna was to create a pair of earphones for audio engineers, with a studio-monitor accuracy, and a flat sonic response.

For comfort, ZiiGaat Luna has a 3D printed medical grade resin shell, with hand matched drivers and a detachable silver-plated OFC cable, and rigorous testing delivering a boutique quality. The custom interchangeable cable has 0.78mm 2-Pin connectors, with a silver-plated oxygen-free copper design, and they also come with a transport case and the cable is modular.

Subjective Usage

So many companies get the eartips part wrong, and ZiiGaat is one of them – in the sense that sticky, strong adhesion eartips are usually best with BC or Bone Conduction drivers, but Luna comes with some of the best eartips available despite having only Balanced Armature Drivers. Overall, they still have excellent comfort, so it is not an issue.

Luna is thus comfortable, neat in shape, has light shells, and a high quality cable. Passive noise isolation is rather good at 20 dB – 25 dB, with minimal leakage. Cable is great, flexible, and does not conduct microphonic noise. Everything about Luna is great from an ergonomic standpoint.

Zii Gaat Luna has a medium fitting, with the default eartips providing a better comfort than most aftermarket alternatives.

Sound Quality

Pairings – To review the ZiiGaat Luna, I have paired it with a selection of sources, including Rose Technics RT-5000, Dethonray Clarinet, SMSL M20, TempoTec March V, Catin RU9, JDS Labs Element IV, iBasso DX340, Lotoo PAW GT2, FiiO K17. this is a very easy to drive pair of IEMS that is sensitive to source quality, background noise and it is best paired with something that has a good quality. At the very least it deserves an iBasso Nunchaku.

Overall Signature – ZiiGaat luna has a really strong resolution, it reveals a lot of details, through the prism of a linear – neutral signature that allows voices to always be the central element of the sound, but with a strong extension both in the low end and the treble. This pair of IEMS will impress you immediately with the instrument separation, definition and overall clarity it delivers.

Bass – Starting in the low-end extension, Luna is one of the few linear – neutral IEMs that can reach 20 Hz with a fast, detailed sound down there but a fairly smooth texture that is free of grain. Bass is fast, pumpy, not thunderous and has a short decay, but this helps build the monitoring, strongly technical signature Luna is going for.

Midrange – With a leader vocal, sweet voicing, ZiiGaat Luna sounds crisp but highlights the presence of female voices, giving music a highly dramatic but sweet sound. This works really well for music coming from the Asia area, including J-Rock, J-Pop and ACG music in general. Luna is effective at always keeping voices as the central element of a song, and works best with happy, pumped up music, especially good for pop in general. As there’s a strong focus on voices, there is one on instruments too, making it great for rock and metal, but not for EDM and Dubstep, or instrumental music in general.

Treble – ZiiGaat Luna has a sharp, strong treble extension that gives music brilliance, impact and air. This allows them to reach 20 kHz, giving music a brilliant aura and strong resolution, as a lot of the information is in the upper midrange and treble, and Luna reveals that information best.

Dynamics and Textures – ZiiGaat luna has a somewhat compressed dynamic range, as it is based only on Balanced Armature drivers, it delivers a flat-ish sound with strong focus on resolution and details, but this has the tendency to bring quieter parts louder to make them more audible, and as a vocal centric pair of IEMS, this also dampens the dynamic range. Textures are crisp without sounding grainy. It is not smooth, more along the lines of fast-natural.

Loudness Saturation Gradient – Luna can get loud easily, and it stays controlled, very consistent across all volume levels, being excellent for monitoring and sound engineering in this aspect. As it also has a rather good passive noise isolation, there is no need to bring them really loud to hear everything or to cancel out ambient noise.

Soundstage – Luna separates really well, layers nicely, but it is not made for width or a holographic soundstage. As is the case with most monitoring / engineering IEMs, they sound natural in the soundstage, if a bit intimate at times, but instrument separation is king, they deliver one of the strongest lateral stereo separations and layerings you can find in the price range.

Comparisons

ZiiGaat Luna vs Xenns Mangird Top Pro (379 USD vs 449 USD) – Top Pro is similar in comfort, also easy to drive and comes with a nice cable, but Luna has lighter shells, it is a bit more ergonomic and looks a bit more stealthy. Both are similarly easy to drive and similarly sensitive to the source quality. Sonically, they promise and deliver a similar experience, but where Top Pro sounds quite natural and smooth, Luna is much faster, snappier, more dry and more analytical. For studio work, absolute linearity or transparency, luna is the recommended iem, while for a more natural approach to a vocal centric sound, Top Pro is the better choice.

ZiiGaat Luna vs Punch Audio Martilo (379 USD vs 329 USD) – Martilo is a heavier, tighter fitting IEM with a much heavier, thicker and less flexible cable. Both IEMs come with a good transport case, Martilo is harder to drive and less sensitive to the source quality. Sonically, Martilo is a true basshead bass cannon, it delivers a thunderous bass, smooth and somewhat wooly midrange and a smooth, relaxed treble compared to the Luna. Both IEMs are great for the right listener and music style, Luna is better for vocal centric music, pop, J-Rock, and especially music with a female voice at the core, while Martilo is better for rap, EDM, Electronic and instrumental music. Luna has far better resolution, it is more analytic and sounds more revealing.

ZiiGaat Luna vs Dunu Vulkan 2 (379 USD vs 359 USD) – Vulkan 2 is made of metal, has heavier shells, but it comes with a quality cable just like Luna. Both have a good transport case, they are similarly easy to drive, both are similarly sensitive to the source quality. Both IEMs are comfortable, but Luna is lighter, has a more ergonomic shell, strong passive noise isolation and less leakage too. Sonically, Vulkan 2 and Luna have a very similar level of detail and resolution, but presented in a different light. Vulkan 2 is strongly dynamic, has a more v-Shaped signature, it reveals less voices, but more instruments, more pump, thump, kick, splash and thunder. Luna sounds more linear, reveals more voice, more mid information, it sounds more direct.

Value and Conclusion

ZiiGaat offers a specific, specialist signature but a good one, with strong technical resolution, comfortable fitting, offering strong value, as it also has a modular cable, and good transport case included in the package of the Luna.

At the end of the day, if you’re looking for a fast, clean, crisp, detailed sounding pair of IEMS with exceptional resolution and clarity, strong contrast and details, and with a strong instrument separation, but in a comfortable shell and that is easy to drive, I fully recommend ZiiGaat luna for their exceptional value and technical resolution.
