Spice My Music And My Sound – HIDIZS MP143 Salt Planar IEMS
HIDIZS MP143 Salt is a $129 USD pair of Planar Driver IEMs, with a large 14.3mm Large Planar Driver at the core, and it will be the star of our review today.
Introduction
Hidizs has created a large number of enjoyable products recently, but nothing is quite as fun as the IEM line they make. They are best known for dongle DAC/AMPS and DAPs, but the IEMS they created grew in popularity far above the market thanks to the smart tuning the company is currently employing.

Build Quality / Aesthetics
HiDIZS built the MP 143 Salt around a 14.3mm Large Planar Magnetic Driver, with a Whale-inspired design, hence where the name salt comes from. With a fully symmetrical circuit, and a 6N Silver-Plated Single-Crystal Copper Wire, Salt is technologically advanced, but looks and feels natural.
We get a new HIDIZS Pneumatic Sound Tuning Filter, and 0.78mm 2-Pin Cable connectors at the IEM end, with either 3.5mm or 4.4mm balanced connectors, and soft ear guides that hold the IEMS inside your ears. HIDIZS calls the new eartips a Liquid Silicone eartip tech, and I actually feel like they are more comfortable than anything I’ve felt before, they feel liquid somehow, and MP143 is one of the few IEMS that did not require me to replace the default eartips with ddHiFi ST-35.
Fit / Subjective Usage
HIDIZS MP143 Salt is one of the largest IEMS in the entire world, and it is bigger than most of my IEMS by a rather considerable margin. It is so huge that it feels like it fills my ears completely, but it actually is comfortable to me, the shells are not heavy, nor do they feel uncomfortable in any way.
Passive noise isolation is very low, they are rather transparent, and they leak a bit, but cable is comfortable, shells are comfy, overall I am having fun wearing the MP 143 Salt despite the large size. I like that they can be bought with the 4.4mm balanced plugs.
We also receive a customized Transport Pouch, and Hi-Res certification, with H-2019 Curve being the target of the tuning, along with a HIDIZS Professional Tunig.
Sound Quality
Pairings – To test the MP143 Salt, I have paired it with a selection of sources, including Rose Technics RT-5000, Dethonray Listening M1, Dethonray Clarinet, iBasso DX340, Lotoo PAW GT2. HIDIZS MP 143 needs quite a bit of power to be driven well, it seems to appreciate a high quality source, and just feels so darn dynamic, it becomes much better when you go higher with a source, but it can be driven from most dongles and portable sources just fine. Given the price point, you really shouldn’t stress the source too much.
Overall Signature – Hidizs is currently following both the Harman Curve but also the H-2019 Curve, with a bit of HIDIZS magic. MP143 sounds different from everything I heard, they are the single largest sounding pair of IEMS in this price range, and likely in the entire world, incredibly dynamic, big, punchy and colorful. Bass is deep, can reach the sub-bass really well, but the most surprising part is the soundstage width, depth and instrument separation for sure. Treble extends nicely in the 20 kHz range for a little sparkle.
Bass – At the bottom, MP143 is rather punchy, with a strong sub-bass extension, reaching 20 Hz just fine, but being mostly natural, with a tiny bit of extra weight and punch to not be called dead bright or pure neutral. Bass is on the faster side, giving music a quick speed and detailed presentation.
Midrange – We get a rathert neutral, color-free midrange, with a similar amount of lower midrange and upper midrange presence, with a really strong instrument separation, a sound that is maybe a touch vague and a bit too scattered, but overall really holographic, and incredibly enjoyable. Generally, MP143 will make music magical.
Treble – At the top end, we have bright, sharp treble that extends up to 20 kHz, but is never fatiguing, thanks to the smoother texture and relaxed presentation. Generally, you will hear a lot of high-end extensions, and MP143 will easily show what songs were mixed and masterd well, and where the engineers cut the treble a bit too soon.
PRaT / Textures / Dynamic – Part of why I said MP143 is a bit vague and scattered is the texture, it runs a really smooth texture that has no grain, no grit, sounds relaxed, laid-back and gives MP143 a sound that is really enjoyable even with energetic rock and technical death metal. It will make all music fun and engaging, interesting but fatigue-free, allowing you to pump the volume and still enjoy your music.
Volume Control – Hidizs made the MP 143 to become more engaging, more punchy and more colorful at higher volumes, but more relaxed, and laid-back at lower volumes. It will turn the fun up as much as you turn the volume up.
Soundstage – For the widest, most holographic sound possible, Hidiz puts the punch back into the package, basically MP 143 is the widest, most holographic sounding pair of IEMS I’ve heard recently, it projects music in all directions, creates the widest, most holographic sound you will hear in this price range, it will give you goosebumps with no end.
Value and Conclusion
With a price tag of 129 USD at the moment of writing this review, Hidizs got the comfort, and the sound right, especially if you want a strong instrument separation, and a holographic sound. You can further fine tune MP143, and the sound I describe is just how it sounds out of the factory.
At the end of the day, HIDIZS MP143 is one of the most enjoyable entry-level IEMS, a bit more vague and scattered than tight V-Shaped sounding ones, great for atmospheric songs, has its own charm, perfect for orchestral, but also rock, metal, and even EDM and a fully recommended purchase if you have ears large enough for the shells.
